Welcome to Slovakia
After the surviving crewmembers of the Tenmenbak bailed out (Sperry Ball gunner, Rollie Morin had been fatally wounded during the battle), the B-24 crashed into the countryside between the village of Omsenie and Trenčianske Teplice. Trenčianske Teplice is a health resort and small spa town in western Slovakia. It's located in the valley of the river Teplička, at the foothills of the Strážovské vrchy mountains. The much larger city of Trencin, about 20 kilometers to the west, housed a Luwaffe airbase during the Nazi German occupation of WWII. This is probably where many of the Focke-Wulf 190 fighters that attacked the Tenmenbak and the 451st were based. During the Nazi occupation, Trencin was the headquarters of the Sicherheitsdienst (SS) and the Gestapo. There was also a prison camp near the city.
Trenčianske Teplice is renowned for its sulphuric and thermal springs. It is a center of recreation, tourism and of various cultural events.
