The Consolidated B-24 Liberator
The young men of the Tenmenbak and the 351st took to the sky in the battle-proven B-24 Liberator. A wonder of design and durability, the Liberator was one the toughest, most respected aircraft in the Allied inventory. Thousands of factory workers staffed around-the-clock shifts at the Ford Motor Company's Willow Run plant, producing hundreds of Liberators a month. At their peak, one of these manufacturing marvels could be constructed every 55 minutes. Over 19,000 of these bombers where built during World War II, making it one of the most prolific aircraft ever created. The pilots loved this plane for its handling, fly-ability and defensive fire power. The crew loved it for its toughness and its uncanny ability to bring the boys home - even when unbelievably crippled.
