In a small meadow on the top of a tree-covered hill, on the outskirts of Trenčianske Teplice, is a memorial honoring Roland Morin and air crew members who died trying to free Slovakia from Nazi Germany.
The memorial is touchingly simple - a wooden cross, a propeller blade from the B-24 which doubles a vase, a piece of the aluminum skin of the Liberator; and a plaque. |
Crew members, family and friends stand at the memorial during the service.
Slovakian troops stand guard at the monument during the international memorial service in 2000. Crewmember Bob Trumphy makes his way to the memorial to place a rose there in Roland's memory.
Due to economic hard times in the region, the townspeople have not been financially able to maintain the memorial. If you would be interested in giving a gift that could help maintain the memorial, please contact Gino Dinucci.
